Concert Band Performs At Boston’s Faneuil Hall

Concert Band, Boston’s Faneuil Hall

The United States Air Force Band of Liberty’s Concert Band participated in the Boston Festival of Bands at historic Faneuil Hall on June 3. Each year, the event brings together concert bands from throughout New England on the first Saturday in June to perform traditional and contemporary wind band music.

The Concert Band’s selections included Festive Overture by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich; Karl King’s Melody Shop march, featuring euphoniumists SSgt John Garcia and SrA Eric Spinelli; Bach’s epic Toccata and Fugue in D Minor; and Jacques Press’s klezmer-inspired Wedding Dance.

The Concert Band’s Faneuil Hall performance also featured several Boston area collegiate musicians. These talented interns received a unique opportunity to gain professional performing experience by assisting the band in this special concert.

Faneuil Hall, located near the waterfront of today's Government Center in Boston, has been a marketplace and a meeting hall since 1742. It was the site of several speeches by Samuel Adams, James Otis and others encouraging independence from England, and is now part of Boston National Historical Park and a well-known stop on the Freedom Trail. The Festival of Bands at Faneuil Hall is sponsored by Boston’s Metropolitan Wind Symphony.
