TSgt David Dell
Director of Operations
A native of Williamsport, Maryland, Technical Sergeant David Dell is Director of Operations for the United States Air Force Band of Liberty and a trumpeter with the Concert Band, Liberty Pops, Liberty Big Band, and Ceremonial Band.
A 1990 graduate of Williamsport High School, Sergeant Dell has received numerous honors as a trumpeter. He performed as the principal trumpeter for the Maryland State Jazz Ensemble in 1989. He also received the Peter Buys, the Commendation, and the Earl Bowman awards, all for musical excellence. Sergeant Dell continued his education at Shenandoah College and Conservatory where he earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Commercial Music in 1994. While in college, he received the Shenandoah University Jazz Performance Award. His private teachers and coaches include the following: Dr. Scott Nelson, Professor of Trumpet; Craig Fraedich, soloist for the Army Blues; Joe Eckert, soloist for the US Air Force Airmen of Note; Bob Larson, Professor of Jazz Studies; Golder O'Niell, Professor of Audio Engineering; Greg Hopkins of Berkeley School of Music; and John McNeil, faculty at the New England Conservatory of Music.
Prior to entering the Air Force, Sergeant Dell worked as a sound engineer specialist with ESPN on the Pro Golf tour. He produced, engineered, and mixed many instrumental projects for media use as well as performed with several big bands, pit orchestras, and jazz combos throughout the Washington D.C. area.
Sergeant Dell entered the United States Air Force in November of 1994 and was assigned directly to the United States Air Force Band of Liberty, Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts. While assigned there, he assumed a dual positions as trumpet player and audio engineer. He designed the band's digital recording studios, has been a consultant for Blue Jay Recording Studios, worked as an engineer for the Boston Pops 4th of July concerts, and has mixed or performed with the Mills Brothers, Jack Jones, and the Lettermen.
His military awards and decorations include the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Sergeant Dell graduated in February 2000 with highest honors from Airman Leadership School at Hanscom AFB where he earned the prestigious John L. Levitow award for academic and leadership excellence.
