A milestone for the United States Air Force Band of Liberty was celebrated in a ceremony at Hanscom Air Force Base on May 1. Larry H. Lang, commander and conductor, was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, becoming the first commander in the history of the unit to serve in that rank.

Many senior Hanscom leaders and distinguished guests were in attendance to congratulate Colonel Lang, including Major General Arthur J. Rooney, Jr., Vice Commander of Hanscom’s Electronic Systems Center; 66th Air Base Wing commander Colonel Timothy Ceteras; and Boston’s Union Oyster House restaurant proprietor Angelo Picardi, one of the Band of Liberty’s major supporters. In General Rooney’s remarks during the ceremony, he summarized the many accolades Colonel Lang has received over his career and cited the Colonel’s biggest career accomplishments, including the creation of numerous compact disc recordings which delivered key messages to target audiences such as at-risk youth, deployed military personnel and their families.

Wife Donna, daughter Jinny, son Ryan and stepfather Bill Glenn (retired Army Master Sergeant) pinned silver oak leaf insignia on the Air Force’s newest Lieutenant Colonel. The event marked not only a special day for the Lang family, but a bright one for the Air Force and its Bands program as well.
