Major Larry H. Lang assumed command of the United States Air Force Band of Liberty in a ceremony at Hanscom Air Force Base on July 6.

Major Lang arrives to the Band of Liberty following graduation from the United States Air Force Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell AFB, Alabama. He previously served as Commander of the Air Force Heritage of America Band, Langley AFB, Virginia; the Air Force Band of the Pacific, Anchorage, Alaska; and began his Air Force career as Deputy Commander of the Air Force Band of Flight, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

Captain Matthew S. Henry, Commander and Music Director since September 3, 2002, has led the 61 members of the United States Air Force Band of Liberty in over 1200 performances throughout New England, New Jersey and New York. Through the use of sophisticated multimedia presentations, and creative staging and programming, he dramatically transformed the quality and entertainment value of the band’s community relations performances. Captain Henry recorded and produced three critically acclaimed compact discs, including the premiere recordings of the Ambassadors jazz ensemble and Afterburner combo. His leadership of the first-ever deployment of an Air Force band to Iraq and Qatar under the Air Expeditionary Force construct cemented the Band of Liberty’s reputation as one of the Air Force band career field’s most innovative and mission capable units.

Captain Henry leaves Hanscom to become the new Commander of the Air Force Band of the Pacific. Brigadier General David J. Eichhorn, Deputy for Support for Hanscom Air Force Base’s Electronic Systems Center, presided over the Change of Command ceremony.
