Three of the United States Air Force Band of Liberty’s finest were honored in February in Air Force Materiel Command and Hanscom Air Force Base award competitions.

TSgt Mark Stanaford, a native of Villa Grove, Illinois competed against NCOs at bases throughout Air Force Materiel Command and was selected as the command’s Public Affairs Outstanding Band Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for 2005. As saxophonist with the Liberty Pops, Liberty Big Band and Ceremonial Band, Sergeant Stanaford performed at 64 events for over 242,000 people. He also serves as the band’s assistant resource advisor and designed and created a comprehensive financial database system for the band.

Greenville, South Carolina native MSgt Greg Sprowl was chosen as the Hanscom Air Force Base Electronic Systems Center Senior NCO of the Quarter for October-December of 2005. Sergeant Sprowl performs on tuba with the Liberty Pops and Ceremonial Band and is also the band’s resource advisor. When not performing or managing the band’s operating budget, he’s pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

Hanscom ESC quarterly honors were also awarded to A1C Caleb Sanders, who hails from Duncanville, Texas. Airman Sanders is the audio engineer for the Liberty Pops and Liberty Big Band, and subbed as engineer for the Afterburner combo last quarter. He was lauded for configuring a state of the art wireless microphone system, redesigning the band’s recording control room, and creating an in-place audio system for Hanscom’s combined officer/enlisted club.

Congratulations to all three winners!!
